Based on the etymologies of anatomy (Latin for “dissecting the corpse”) and morphology (“study of forms”), we will see that there have been several approaches to the human body throughout history. We will look at the body ‘in life’ in order to develop a contemporary approach to what is known as the practice of the ‘living model’. This course will enable you to acquire a solid grounding in drawing, but no pre-requisites are required.

Through observation and experimentation, we will develop an understanding of bone structures, muscle dynamics and centres of balance. We will extend these fundamental concepts by looking at the drawing gesture: how can we recreate the sensation of a living, breathing body, subject to its own physiological and biological rhythms?

How can we develop memorisation techniques that enable us to transcribe chosen body postures by imagination or “with our eyes closed”? Ultimately, the aim is for everyone to be free to pursue their own independent practice and follow their own unique graphic intuition.

You will need to bring your own equipment (a list will be sent to you when you register).

*Classes will be suspended during the Christmas holidays and will continue during the winter holidays.
