Simple at first glance, monotype is a matrixless printing technique on the borderline between printmaking and painting. This workshop introduces you to its subtleties and varied possibilities.

Ink is deposited on a flat surface and printed simply by placing a sheet of paper on it. Monotype printing is perhaps the freest and least restrictive of all printmaking techniques. While the absence of engraved information means that several identical prints cannot be produced, monotype compensates for this shortcoming with spontaneity and speed of execution.

After an initial, fairly instinctive and direct approach to monotype, the workshop will explore more elaborate possibilities through the use of resist covers, superimpositions and ghost prints. A great deal of time will be devoted to color, with the dilution of inks, the use of rollers to create flat tints and gradations, and accessories to generate textures and patterns.
