Sketchbook in hand, with Paris as the backdrop, learn to look at an urban environment and acquire the technical bases of drawing.

The sketchbook is the backdrop for the course, articulating the work accomplished and benchmarking the progress of personal writing. The teaching progression enables students to acquire the keys to representing urban space. The essential concepts of spatial representation are covered, with particular attention paid to rendering the atmosphere of places through the use of light and framing.

In order to establish a few fundamentals, the classes will first take place on the premises of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, before exploring the surrounding area: the historic heart of Paris (Quays of the Seine, gardens of the Palais Royal, the Louvre, the streets of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and all the possibilities offered by the richness of the surrounding area). The variations in climate will allow us to draw both indoors (Chapelle des Beaux-Arts, Palais des études, museums, churches, covered passageways) and outdoors (cour du Mûrier, cour des Beaux-Arts de Paris, streets, riverbanks, bridges, squares, parks and gardens).

Equipment to be provided by the trainee (list given on registration).
