The goal of this workshop, which focuses on the live model, is to help students acquire a solid foundation in oil or acrylic painting and then gradually develop their own personal style. This course emphasizes observation, so that students learn to situate a form among others, to simplify it in order to interpret it, memorize it, and finally reproduce it by transitioning from three to two dimensions. Corrections are tailored to each student’s level, whether they are beginners or already experienced.
Naturally, through the specific characteristics of each technique freely chosen by the student, the course addresses issues of proportion, foreshortening, the rendering of light and space, and artistic concerns by referencing both historical and contemporary works. An alternation of poses of varying durations allows for a deeper exploration of the artist’s technique. Long sessions (several hours) allow for an analytical study of forms, more elaborate work, and raise questions of composition. With short sessions (a few minutes or even seconds), the focus is on a more intuitive approach. To facilitate the drying of the paints, acrylic work will be prioritized on Thursdays and Fridays.
